Home Remedies For Acne

Here are seven home remedies for acne that are really popular ... natural acne treatments that are usually less expensive and have less side effects than over the counter medications or prescription drugs.

1. Vitamins  -  Vitamin A is perhaps the most important vitamin for the production and maintenance of a healthy complexion.  It helps control the amount of sebum produced by your skin, and it is also a key vitamin in the production of keratin.  But, it's very potent, and must only be taking in controlled doses.  Consult your doctor about the appropriate amount to take.  Other important skin vitamins are B-6, C, E and zinc.  Approximately 30-50 mg of Zinc daily is recommended for acne sufferers. Any multi vitamin should have all of these included in adequate amounts - ask your drug store pharmacist if you have any questions.

2. Oranges - don't laugh - besides an orange being a good source of vitamin C, it's outer peel is helpful also.  Take the peel off of an orange and apply it to your face, rubbing it on for a few minutes a day for a few days and see if that starts to diminish your acne.  Stop it if irritation develops.

3. Lemon - aid anyone ?  squeeze some fresh lemons to get an adequate amount of fresh juice, apply to your face with your hands or a soft cloth for a few minutes a day - try for a few days and see if you notice any improvement - simple, but often effective.  If not, you can always make lemonade !

4.  Herbal products - you can find herbs in pill form in most drug stores or health food stores.  Try Calendula, Witch Hazel, Flaxseed oil, Tea Tree Oil, Chamomile Extract, or even Rosemary Extract- be sure to read the directions and ask the pharmacist or your dotor first before taking these, because there could be side effects if taken with other medications you may be taking.

5.  Baking soda  - this can help you bake a nice cake, freshen your refrigerator contents and amazingly, exfoliate your skin.  Exfoliation is key in treating acne, since it focuses on removing dead skin cells that can get trapped in your pores.  Simply mix a small amount of baking soda (a teaspoon or so) with water to create a consistent paste.  Very gently, massage the baking soda scrub onto your skin.  Leave it on for around one minute, then rinse clean with lukewarm water.  Use a clean towel to pat your face dry.

6.  Apple cider vinegar - this is high in citric acid, which is a strong exfoliating ingredient that can remove excess dead skin cells and improve your skin's overall texture and tone.  Dilute the apple cider vinegar, with one part vinegar to eight parts water.  Be sure to use high quality apple cider vinegar and purified water.  Okay, now wet a cotton ball with your apple cider vinegar mix and gently moisten your skin.  Don't do this too much or it will irritate your skin - a few dabs should do you just fine per day - try for a few days to a week and see what happens.

7.  Another great idea is to watch your diet, eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables every day, and of course, exercise.  These things will also reduce your stress levels, make you feel better overall and clear your skin, more than you think.
